My quest began two years ago at Pony Club Championships after watching a young girl and her Haflinger ride a musical freestyle to the music of “Happy Feet”. I was smitten, my search had begun. After striking out locally, I hit the internet and stumbled upon “Abe” available at the Roanchar Ranch Draft Horse Rescue in Varysburg, New York. Although not keen on the idea of a rescue, I contacted Lida Mosovich. The first time I spoke to Lida I was impressed. She explained how she had recently started the rescue, saving Abe from the kill pen, brought him back to health and what she had accomplished with him to date. You could hear the passion and dedication for her cause in her voice. She promptly emailed me the required application. Still a little leery, I returned the required paperwork and scheduled a visit.

Lida was there to greet me upon arrival. Her home and facility were immaculate with plenty of room to romp and graze. I instantly noticed the bond and mutual respect between Lida and her animals. Abe was not at all what I expected to see either! I had visions of a skinny, untrained, rogue pony. Instead he was chubby, quiet and a very well behaved six year old. She demonstrated what she had accomplished with him in a very short time, again, I was impressed. I could tell she was checking out me as much as I was checking out Abe! She was not going to let him go to just anyone. I left there knowing I had found my Haffie and signed the very detailed contract the following week. June 22, 2014 was the day. Lida most generously offered to bring Abe the 140 miles to my farm. Again, I knew she was not going to let him go to just any home and wanted to see where he was going to be living. After getting Abe settled and a tearful goodbye, she was on her way. It has been Haffie love ever since!
